This is my submission for this year's MeetMat3 competition. The inspiration for this piece comes from the Nian, a creature in traditional Chinese culture. The Nian is a monster that resembles a lion and is entirely red in color. It appears during the Lunar New Year in winter, which is why I've covered the creature with a layer of snow and frost to emphasize its association with the winter season. Since this monster originates from the East, its color scheme is inspired by Chinese New Year paintings and porcelain. I've also adorned it with numerous patterns featuring Eastern elements to highlight its Eastern origins. This entire piece was completed in Substance Painter. The base model is the standard model provided by MeetMat, which I modified using displacement maps. I hope you all enjoy this work.
